Project Description
Ultimx
Martin Francis was approached as yacht designer by an experienced yacht owner to conceive an ambitious project: a superyacht that could travel in all sea conditions for research and discovery operations, with a recording studio and world class entertainment facilities.
On the main deck aft there is a vast entertainment space: 15 metres wide, 50 metres long and 4.3 metres high with full height hinged doors to the side decks facing aft like fish gills to allow natural ventilation and inside/outside living whenever possible. Combined with the enormous aft deck, this provides space for entertaining large numbers of guests for such events as the Cannes Film Festival. As per usual with Martin Francis’ designs, the Owner’s suite is above the bridge to ensure maximum privacy and 180 degree views.
The Owner’s deck is designed to be progressively more private as one moves forward: aft is a reception area and outside deck where he can entertain guests, moving forward on the starboard side is an art gallery which leads through his private study to his forward-looking suite with an opening roof. Most importantly there is a private lift from the side boarding platform directly to the owners suite. In order to meet this complex brief, several different lengths of vessel were considered, ranging from 135 metres to 157 metres. In the final analysis, the 154 design was determined to the best suited to the client’s requirements.
